On the waterside promenade of the Isarco river at the entrance to the historic downtown of Bressanone, the venerable ADLER Historic Guesthouse has been hosting guests since the year 1500, as verified by the chronicles. The thick walls and vaulted ceilings still whisper anecdotes on the illustrious guests of yesteryear, including the likes of Emperor Maximilian I or Michel de Montaigne, who of course lacked today’s modern conveniences when they spent the night during their visits to the diocesan town back in the day.

For decades, the Mayr family has shown skill and intuition in preserving the beauty of oldness and the original character of the neatly restored, landmarked building

while combining it with the stylish elegance of newness

and thereby continuing the story of what centuries ago Montaigne described as a “bonne auberge”.

Wake up in old-town central with the murmur of river Isarco in your ears—in a house full of (hi)stories.

A conversation with
Hosts Maria, Hermann, and Christoph Mayr »about illustrious guests, auspicious gossip, and the perks of being right next to River Isarco.«
